SmartCo appoints new General Manager

SmartCo announced today the appointment of Jamie Baddeley as General Manager of SmartCo. Jamie is an experienced information technology, telecommunications and Internet executive with a broad range of skills and experience; most recently as Group Chief Technology Officer at a NZX Listed Company and previously as a General Manager at FX Networks.  He is also familiar with managing diverse stakeholder environments having previously been President of the Internet Service Providers Association, and is currently President of InternetNZ.

Jamie replaces Gavin Lennox who led SmartCo for over two years from establishment to mass deployment go-live. Gavin will remain with SmartCo through August then take up a CEO position in a New Zealand based technology company in October.

SmartCo’s chairman Garth Dibley says, “We’re excited about Jamie joining SmartCo as the company transitions from establishment to operations and mass deployment. Jamie’s commercial and technical experience in telecommunications will be very relevant in helping our customers and shareholders get the best from advanced metering infrastructure.”

SmartCo commenced mass deployment of smart meters in October 2014 and is now delivering high quality metering services to energy retailers. The lines companies, shareholders of SmartCo, will also leverage the same AMI platform to improve network services for consumers including faster outage detection and restoration and improved power quality.
